"Nick" - Finished Commissioned work in Acrylic

Someone asked me what my commissioned pieces can look like when a client wants a finished piece that is "tighter."  "Nicholas" is a 16 X 20 portrait in acrylic, using the John Watkiss (search Blogspot) approach to paint build-up method, and is color-glazed.  Nick's Mom was elated by this portrait, so much so that I also painted her daughter, Alexandra --- and no, they are not Romanoffs.....


Note the original (not at all well-lighted) reference photo to the left.  If I were to do this painting again, I would have "staged" the lighting more in the painting to focus more on the boy's face.

Unfinished Portraits...

Sometimes you have just an hour or two to work on a portrait of a model.  When that happens, backgrounds and costumes become secondary.  Note that the top painting is another of Jonnathon, the actor/professional clown model who's like a chameleon, always changing his look (he was the man with the Victorian moustache and goggles, and also a "professor" in two previous posts).

Aerodynamic...?

An oil sketch, unfinished.  I like how she looks almost aerodynamic in this pose... much like a vintage 1920s hood ornament.

Painting of a Pin-Up Girl in Street Gear...

Oil painting in progress of a pin-up model dressed most un-pin-uppy (look hard and you will see that a pin-up photo of her will appear behind her in the finished piece).  That's of course the reference photo to your right.
